Administered by trained clinical professionals, Botox can smooth fine lines and also help manage jaw tension and TMJ discomfort.
Botox is administered here by trained clinical professionals. It has two distinct uses in a dental office, and patients come to us for both.
The cosmetic one is familiar — relaxing the muscles that create fine lines around the forehead and eyes. The clinical one is less well known: for patients who clench or grind, easing the overworked jaw muscles can reduce the tension headaches, jaw ache and morning soreness that come with it, and take some of the destructive force off the teeth themselves.
A dental practice is an unusual but reasonable place to have this done, because facial anatomy and the muscles of the jaw are what we work with every day. If your interest is the TMJ side, we will also look at whether a night guard or an adjustment to your bite should come first — Botox is not always the right starting point.
Typically three to four months, after which the effect gradually wears off.
It can reduce the force of clenching and the muscle pain that goes with it. It does not stop the habit, so we usually consider it alongside a night guard rather than instead of one.
Trained clinical professionals at the practice. We will go through your medical history and what to expect before anything is done.
