Dental Exams & Cleanings in Mount Airy, MD

Routine checkups and professional cleanings (prophylaxis) to remove plaque and tartar and keep your teeth and gums in top condition.

A checkup and cleaning is the appointment that makes every other appointment less likely. Our hygienist removes the plaque and tartar that brushing cannot reach, and the dentist looks over your teeth, gums and bite for anything starting to go wrong.

Most of what we find at this stage is small — a spot of early decay, a filling beginning to fail, gums that have started to recede. Caught here, these are quick fixes. Left alone for a few years, the same problems become crowns, deep cleanings and root canals.

It is also the visit where we get to know you. Our office is one where patients know us and we know them, and that is much easier to build over regular short visits than over occasional emergencies.

Exams & Cleanings — common questions

How often should I come in?

Every six months suits most people. If you have gum disease or a history of decay, we may suggest three or four months instead — we will tell you why rather than just booking it.

Does a cleaning hurt?

It should not. If your gums are inflamed they can be tender, which is itself worth knowing about, and we can numb the area if you would rather.

I have not been to a dentist in years. Is that a problem?

No, and it is more common than you would think. Come in, we will see where things stand and work out a plan from there. Nobody gets a lecture.
